Tips For Surviving 2020

1. Take social media breaks when possible.

There are a multitude of factors affecting each of years whether it be the Coronavirus, the upcoming election, or other political and social factors ongoing in the country. All of this has created a social media climate that can be difficult or stressful to be a part of. That is why I try to take a break at least once a week from checking any form of social media. I find taking that small purge has gone a long way for my mental health during this trying year.

2. Go outside and be active.

Whether it is kayaking, going for a walk, or lifting weights finding a way to be active can help keep your mind and body healthy. It is a proven fact that many of us during the global pandemic have gained weight or lost muscle definition with stay at home orders. That is why I cannot recommend enough finding some form of exercise between 30 minutes to an hour to help keep your body active. Many rental companies were allowed to reopen in Texas during Paddle board and kayaks for rentthe first phase of reopening, so that means you can get your hands on a bike, kayak, paddle board, etc. to help keep you active and moving.

3. Try new experiences

I find that changing up my schedule or routine can really freshen things up in 2020. Sprinkle in a new hobby or even try new restaurants to freshen up your day to day routine. You never know when you will find a permanent addition to your day to day routine. Personally, during the pandemic I have been trying yoga a few times a week and really love the practice and flexibility I have gained. When trying new places to eat it is more important than ever to support local businesses, so please shop locally over a chain location. Right before the first shelter in place order was inputted, I moved to a new area and honestly due to the order I already have a growing list of nearby restaurants that I enjoy.

4. Meet new people.

Now I know this is kind of weird one, but it is super possible during Corona Virus. There are all sorts of sites where you can meet people of similar interests whether it be a Reddit page or a Facebook group. a group of people that are standing in the grassFor example, about a month ago there was a Facebook group created so that people could simulate being an ant that received millions of users. If you are single there are apps like Tinder and Bumble to meet new people in your area. If you meet someone of interest you can always find clever social distance or zoom dates to do.

5. Find a comfortable routine.

The previous advice all focuses on adding new things to your day to day life, but the most important thing is to first establish a daily routine. Many people during this pandemic have lost their sense of normal due to a massive change in schedules and what is open in day to day life. I find that setting a stable wake up time and several set activities throughout the day to be so helpful for my overall health. Not only does it help me keep track of the days, but it also helps me keep a steady workout schedule and diet. Additionally, with a set schedule whenever I want to take the opportunity to try new things or meet new people I always know when the best time to do so would be. In a weird way having a set schedule has helped me gain a lot of freedom.
